My name is Katrina Kokolari, and Masło is my food project. I would call myself a 3rd culture kid - I grew up in a mix of Polish, Slovak, Croatian, and American cultures, and spent lots of time in kitchens - in my dad’s restaurants, and with my mom at home. My parents and grandparents instilled in me a deep love and respect for cultural traditions, foods, and and learning. Eventually, I went to grad school for national and transnational studies, where I wrote my thesis on the relationship between food, religion, and nationalism in Polish-American communities. Food is in so many ways an ethnographic tool - by studying the dishes and names of cultural foods, we can learn where our ancestors are from. All of that research eventually led me here, to sharing all of these foods with you.
